New Sessions!

As the technology coach at the High School I am hoping to develop a set of stand alone lessons that discuss digital citizenship. We already have a comprehensive social welfare course, which all pupils follow. However, I would like to supplement this with a set of lessons that look at digital citizenship. After discussing potential topics with my colleagues in the Design department I have decided to look at: Digital Footprints/Profiles, How social media companies use your personal data? Filters in Google and beyond, Why do we backup? I would like to keep developing  this list and eventually want to have approximately 10 mini lessons, each with a video or article stimulus and a final media piece for the pupils to undertake. Just as an aside I am very open to any suggestions for further topics and all my resources will be posted on YouTube so anyone can use them! All the mini lessons must be be approximately 5 - 10 minutes, as it will be shown in a tutor session that is only 30 minutes long. Once the pupils have discussed the stimulus they will then have time to work on the media project that I will set. The topic I am looking at here is on the subject of Digital Footprints and how to use the internet to develop an online profile.I decided to walk the pupils through my digital profile - not because it is especially great, but more that I think if we are asking pupils to develop their profiles, it is essential that we model good practice and let them evaluate what we have done.Once the pupils have watched this video they will be asked to search for themselves and have a look at what they find, they could use a search site like Pipl.  I would then like them to consider what they would like to see on their profile and then methods to do this. For most of them blogging or website development will be an immediate solution. They are fast and effective methods to create their own content and if they use hyperlinks and sources then they will see this information shoot up their “Google list”. Some pupils already have great profiles which they use to showcase their amazing work - I would like to display these and use them as good practice (so hopefully this task will give these pupils some recognition)My video is not amazing and can definitely be improved, especially the format as it is currently still too instructional with limited aspects of story telling. Therefore my final challenge to the pupils would be to ask them to develop a video that could replace mine. I would like them to look at the skills used in creating video remixes and use these in the creation of their own pieces, which will  show their digital profile through their own digital story. This would then be uploaded to YouTube and will in turn become further created content to add to their profile. My ultimate goal is that through these projects they not only discuss the content but they also use creation skills, copyright skills and transfer knowledge for lesson to lesson.
