You are not a label

I was saddened by the News of Jo Cox's death. Did I know her - no? had I heard of her before this - no? did she have any impact on my daily life - no?Then why I am upset? Well , obviously, I feel upset at the loss of any life especially when it is needlessly cut shot. Life is a short gift, a gift to be cherished and a gift with endless possibilities. This destruction of life leaves a huge vacuum of possibilities for the life they could have lead!I am also upset at a society where this happens. A society where the labels we attach to ourselves are more important than our own humanity. In her maiden speech in the Commons Jo Cox said:

“While we celebrate our diversity, what surprises me time and time again as I travel around the constituency is that we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us.”

I wish wholeheartedly that we would, as a society, start to share positive experiences and start to build a society where we celebrate kindness and common experiences. I realise that some people feel supported and protected by labels, but how great would it be if we didn't. If we were just human without a need to label our religion, race, colour, nationality, sexuality, size, gender, music....I am not sure where this experiment came from, it may not even be a real experiment and just a generated media piece. However, no matter what the origin, the message is clear - we are all connected across the world.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCioHPN_QqI I am not sure where to begin with this. I am not sure what I need to do differently. I am not sure who I need to be. But I need to do something to become more positive about society today, as the more I read about acts of violence, unfair treatment, political hatred, persecution the sadder I become. A friend of mine, @valerie_koch, was talking about a repository of good deeds, of happiness, of positivity. Maybe this is the way forward. Flooding social media with examples of positivity, examples of good deeds, examples of rejection of labels, examples of empathy. So this is my mission. A celebration of the things we have in common. A celebration of life. A celebration of happiness. A celebration of life!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0qD2K2RWkc
