Blog Action Day

The world of blogging is a new place for me. I have been working as a Technology teacher for 12 years and have taught about Blogs - how they work, how to write one,......however I have never been inspired to write my own. I think, like many, I felt that I have nothing of real interest to say. However, thanks to input from  I have begun to see the power of blogging. I am also questioning my original idea - Do you always need to make a profound statement? For me they are becoming a way to organise ideas and reflect on my teaching, as well as discussing topics that interest me. I actual catch myself thinking - I want to blog about that! Now I need to ensure that I make the time to do this.I presented a piece on Blog Action day to the pupils at the school and I can see real power in this activity. Pupils here are from a very multicultural background and inequality means something different to each of them. To have a space to discuss, debate and reflect on this issue will allow for deeper understanding. I think it is especially powerful for pupils who spend all day formulating ideas and arguments in English - sometimes to the detriment of their "mother tongue". This would be a great environment to connect with people from different countries and use their native language. We also support many charities within the school and I think the discussions that could be had here would reinforce the importance of these charities. Now it's over to the pupils and staff - who will take up the challenge - exciting!
