Digital Storytelling
The digital story is a beautiful art form and one that is accessible to all. It allows each and every one of us to tell a story that we feel is important, for whatever reason. These stories can be shared in a plethora of ways from blogs to videos to presentations to websites.
"...they (digital stories) all revolve around the idea of combining the art of telling stories with a variety of multimedia, including graphics, audio, video, and Web publishing." Article
I would like to share some of the amazing work that has been happening at our school. There are different examples but they all show how creative we all are.Digital Challenge:Tim has set up a Digital Challenge project as part of the Grade 10 PSHE programme, where pupils need to be creative and produce informative media. They were then asked to create a product for a specific topic and it must have a digital media approach. The piece must be suitable for the wider school community and must use technology within its creation.Below is the winner - a great piece by a group in 10PC. They created a digital story about the Grade 10 PDW. It was not only imaginative, but also used a variety of skills from stop motion style drawing to placement of images, text and the use of appropriate music. The story was very clear and progressed at a great pace. They we asked to "...complete a 45 - 60 second stylish, persuasive video with the intention of convincing your audience of a message of your choosing. The topic of the video must connect with one of the five key issues raised in the documentary Supersize Me." The pupils could use any method of capturing the video. Below are two excellent examples of the creative and imaginative approaches that the pupils took.Barborka Skacelova:
- Hook
- Identify the problem with a claim and supporting evidence
- Propose your solution
- Justify your solution with its impact
- Call-to-action

In Mike's class they were looking at Life of Pi and using media as a method of analysing the book and specific meanings within it. Here Maarten has looked at the possible links between Pi and the animals in the book. He has used a timelapse method, where he has speed up his drawings and voiced over the final piece. It is a lovely method to enable pupils to discuss their findings in a creative way.
Finally, for this blog post, Vicky Wasner is a first time film editor and youtube content creator. She created this lovely video about the PDW in India. It has a clear narrative and a great use of music to evoke a sense of India. She created this using Windows Movie maker and then uploaded it to YouTube. I think it is a lovely piece and well worthy of a share!
Here are just some of the great digital story telling that is happening at our school. I would love to share more. If you have any other pieces please send them to me.
